The Story of a Princess, a Knight, and a Wizard

After all the hulabaloo around Monstera Albos and Pink Princesses, many people find themselves looking into other variegated plants. I know when I was getting into plants this was a spot of confusion for me when it came to the White Princess, White Wizard, and White Knight. I would see comments in plant threads like ‘is it a wizard or a knight’ – ‘ok pass’. Which made me wonder, is one more desirable than the other..? In hindsight, that person likely already had one of the plants, either a Wizard or a Knight, and was looking to obtain the other to fill out their collection. So, I put my research hat on, went down some wormholes, and found the answers!

So, let’s dive into the differences!

The easiest way to tell the difference is to look at the stalk/shaft/middle of the plant where the leaves.

Is it all green, with no color change on the sheath or petiole? Then it’s a Wizard.

Is it green with white and pink striping? Then it’s a Princess.

Is it brownish purple with white striping? Then it’s Knight.
